René Balcer (born February 9, 1954) is a Canadian-American television writer and producer, known for "Law & Order True Crime" (2017), "Above the Drowning Sea" (2017) and "Law & Order: Criminal Intent" (2001). Currently he is consulting producer of the hit CBS drama "FBI".
Balcer is a distant cousin of actress Alana De La Garza, sharing a common relative Juan Cortina, a Mexican folk hero known as the Rio Grande Robin Hood.
